Vegan and Vegetarian night at the Horse and Groom pub

The Horse and Groom pub in Lincoln, located at the end of the Brayford, is hosting it's first ever vegan and vegetarian night this Friday!

Between 12pm and 10pm on Friday 6th April, they are offering a three-course menu with dishes such as mac 'n' cheese, steak and salad, sticky toffee pudding and much more, all of which are suitable for vegans, vegetarians and there's some gluten free options too.

We spoke to Emily, manager at the Horse and Groom, to learn more about this event.

The Horse and Groom aren't the only restaurants beginning to offer a wider range of food for different dietary needs, as we are now seeing more and more vegan menus or vegan options.

It's no surprise that restaurants are introducing these meals as the popularity of veganism continues to grow. The infographic below shows the rise in Google searches for the terms 'vegan' 'gluten free' and 'vegetarian', with 'vegan' being searched for the most over the past 5 years.

Here's what the whole menu is offering:

To start there is a choice of the Mezze - smoked walnut and pepper, houmous, tabbouleh, bread, olives and picked vegetables, or the 'Cheesecake' - cheese on sourdough and pumpkin seed, heritage carrots and beets, or the falafel with cannellini and chilli houmous, torched lemon and seeds. Both the Mezze and the falafel are gluten-free options.

For the main course, there's mac 'n' cheese with white truffle sourdough crumb and salad, a vegan steak made of butternut, edamame and lentil with salad, a nut and lentil burger served with fries, and a pot pie of tofu, mushroom and tarragon with mash and gravy. The gluten-free options are the mac 'n' cheese, the steak, and the burger.

Then for the dessert there is a penut butter mousse with popcorn, a sticky toffee pudding or an affogato with vanilla ice cream, 'stewarts' coffee and nut crisp. Both the peanut butter mousse and the affogato are gluten-free.

The regular menu will also be served if you are with anyone who doesn't wish to eat off the vegan and veggie menu.
